Field trip to Rainbow Trees

The School of gardening would like to thank Rainbow Trees and Andrew Tyler, general manager, for hosting our inaugural field trip to the nursery, it was absolutely fantastic.

Andrew took time out to give us a guided tour around their incredible site, which is one of the largest tree nurseries in the country and grows all types of trees, indoor and outdoor plants and vegetable seedlings.

We all leant a lot about the intricate care that goes into each and every plant to ensure they get the best start and will grow to be strong and healthy, and using Daltons Potting Mix is part of that we are proud to say.

Just when we thought it couldn't get better, we were all given vegetable seedlings and a cyclamen plant to take home!

For more information on Rainbow trees go to www.rainbowtrees.co.nz and look out for their range in Bunnings, Mitre 10 and Palmers.

The School of gardening will be taking a break through July but we will be back in August for our next series of workshops. Details will be sent out nearer the time.

A lovely brisk morning greeted the travellers for The School of Gardening trip to Daltons in Matamata and our two buses were packed with enthusiastic gardeners.

Upon arrival at Daltons, everyone enjoyed the tour of the facilities with the experienced Daltons team talking everyone through the various stages of making soil and bark products, and the rigorous testing procedures to ensure quality products end up in our gardens.

The bag packing facility was a popular stop, with Colin Parker showing the efficient process of bag packaging by the form fill seal machine and bag stacking robotics. Everyone took away a complimentary Daltons bucket with a pack of potting mix.

A delicious lunch was enjoyed at the beautiful Daltons Plantation, with everyone then exploring the fabulous array of gardens designed by Xanthe White. A truly stunning destination! A big thanks to all that attended and we hope everyone enjoyed the trip.
